I'm just going to own up and admit that I own a lot of dvd's. Like A LOT of dvd's. Growing up I always thought this was normal, that people all had their own movie collections, but then I'd go to friends houses and they'd only have about 10 or 20 dvd's. And I was like, but how do you guys watch movies? You've got to have more favorites than that?
Pretty much if my mom or I really liked a movie or if we wanted to see a new movie that had come out, we'd just buy it. I think I was 20 years old the first time I rented a movie. That's not weird right?
When I got married my mom was sweet enough to divide up our dvd collection. But here I am, three years into marriage, and I was at the point where I told my husband we couldn't buy any more movies. I had no where to put them and my living room was starting to feel claustrophobic. I had two dvd shelves and six drawers in my entertainment center completely full and to top it all off, I had a pile of movies growing on the floor. Ridiculous.
I needed to find a better way to store my collection. I had seen others just slide their dvd's into large cd book type cases but it made me too sad to loose each movie's original cover art.
So I hoped on the google machine and started researching dvd storage solutions. Then I stumbed across this amazing product, *Atlantic Movie Sleeves.

These sleeves are absolutely genius. And they make my little ocd heart so happy. They are tall enough to fit up to two dvd's and the movie's cover at, front and back. *cue the choir of angles*
They advertise that you can fit eight sleeves within the space that one dvd case normally takes up. I'm guessing they meant when the sleeves are empty but it's still a crazy good space saver. Plus a pack of 25 sleeves for $10? Sign me up.
Here's a little run through of how the sleeves work.
To start I gathered 25 of some of my favorite movies.
And here's what the box of movie sleeves looked like that I bought from Amazon.
And then I gathered my supplies:
Pile of dvd's
Pack of Atlantic Movie Sleeves
& some sort of paper cuter
(You could totally use scissors if you're brave/way more coordinated than myself.)
Step one: Slide cover art out of case.
Step two: Cut out the middle piece (the spine of the dvd)
Little fun fact, each sleeve has a handy little case within it that holds your dvd's.
Step three: Take dvd out of it's original bulky case and slide it into it's new pretty sleeve.
Step four: Slide cover art into the sleeve.
I like sliding the front into the front of the sleeve and the back cover art in the back, like it was in a normal dvd case. This could probably go without saying but you never know ;) Ya'll know I love to over explain things.
Little fun fact, here's what things look like when you have two dvd's that go in the same sleeve case.
And taa daa! Look how cute my movies all look? Still looking classy (and better than they looked in their original cases I dare say).
And I can still check out the back cover art whenever I like. Love it.
Are you ready for the best part?
Here's the space difference between 25 original dvd cases versus 25 movie sleeves.
(Brace yourselves my friends. Shiz is about to get real.)
Whaaaaaat? Oh my gosh my little heart is so happy.
I can't even believe the amount of wasted space I've been dealing with pretty much my whole life. These sleeves are a total space saver and I honestly love the look more than their original cases.
I've still got so far to go. I don't even dare count how many dvd's I own...but let's just say I bought enough sleeves to house 75 movies and I'm pretty sure I need to buy at least two more sets. Hah. I have a problem. Somebody come hold me.
I am so excited to get these new sleeves set up in the drawers of my entertainment center and to enjoy all the extra space (and storage)!
