About a month ago, the talented Alexa Zurcher posted to her instagram account that she wanted to collaborate with a few fabulous individuals. I wrote her an email thinking that never in a million years she would pick me but holy crap you guys she did! I've been eyeing all her beautiful prints in her etsy shop AlexaZDesign for months now. When she told me I could pick any two that I liked and that she'd send them to me if I helped her get the word out about her shop I was like, "Yes please!"
Opening the mail was like opening presents on Christmas Day.
These prints are absolutely stunning. I especially love that all her work is done with her own handwriting.
(Seriously how perfect this this?)
This first print is my absolute favorite and it holds a special place in my heart. Last March, when I was contemplating changing my business name and taking a new direction in life, I kept stumbling across this quote.
"What if I fall?" Oh but my darling, what if you fly?
I'll admit that putting myself out there can be nerve wracking sometimes, and I might not always know what I'm doing, but this last year has been so unbelievably rewarding. I can't even imagine what my life would be like right now if I had never taken a chance at etsy. Sometimes I'm still shocked by how far I've come in just a year. In case you guys don't already know this, I named my business Darling Be Brave as a gentle reminder to myself to be brave enough pursue all my crazy dreams and to not be afraid to be different. We've all got something special to share.
This quote is part of how the name of my true business, Darling Be Brave, came to be so I knew I had to have this hanging in my office the second I saw it.
And I just had to have this print based off the perfect colors, those adorable vintage-y flowers, and most importantly, the quote sums up perfectly how I feel about my Jake. I can't wait to get this bad boy framed and hanging up alongside some pictures of me and my sweet husband. I dream of figuring out how to create a gallery wall in my living room someday, and I think this print is going to fit in just perfectly.
Until I can figure out exactly where I want this to hang in my office, it's currently sitting on my desk next to a picture of my dear sweet grandma's hands knitting.
Looking back, it's kind of random how I ended up taking that picture, and it's funny how moments that seem trivial in your past can hold such a special meaning later on. You see I took a film photography class in college, and I think we had an assignment to try out different levels of exposure to see the effects of lightening and darkening a picture. I don't even know why I photographed her hands. I was just wandering around her house and must have thought it'd be something cool to take a picture of because this was before I even really knew how to knit or crochet (school was consuming my life, and I didn't have time for hobbies). I even developed this picture in a dark room which kind of blows my mind now that I think about. (High five past Megan!) So when I was cleaning through my house a few weeks ago and stumbled across this picture in a box, my heart sang and I knew I needed to frame it and put it in my office.
